The Scottish Greens remain “unequivocal” that they will vote against Humza Yousaf in a confidence motion next week, The Telegraph understands.
Lorna Slater, the party co-leader, appeared to suggest her party may change their minds over their stance in a radio appearance this morning, if the SNP offered concessions.
However, a senior party source told The Telegraph that the Greens would vote against Mr Yousaf, meaning he would likely need the support of Ash Regan, from Alex Salmond’s Alba Party, to survive.
“We are unequivocal that we will not support him,” the insider said. “We will be voting against the First Minister.
“Lorna was just stating the fact that we are not in any secret talks, they haven’t picked up the phone to us, but we will not be changing our minds.”
The Greens have also not ruled out backing a Labour motion of no confidence in the entire government, which if successful, would mean Mr Yousaf and all his ministers would be forced to immediately resign.
“We have no choice but to wait to make a decision on that because we have no idea what government we might be voting for by next week,” the source added. “Our only option is to decide in real time. We’ve seen today that the SNP are in chaos, with Humza cancelling events left right and centre.”
