VESTAL, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – The United Way has kicked off its annual campaign to combat hunger.
The United Way of Broome County’s Full Plate Project raises awareness and funds for local organizations that feed the hungry.
United Way says over the last two years, the Full Plate Project has awarded over $237,000 to local food banks, pantries and community meal providers.
Last year alone, the organization’s 24/7 help hotline took over 16,000 food related calls, which was an 8% increase from the year before.
Along with the launch of the Full Plate Project, the United Way is also raising money for its annual community campaign.
The Co-Chair of the campaign, Andrew Matsushima says currently, 84% of the over $1.7 million goal is funded.
Campaign Co-Chair for the United Way of Broome County, Andrew Matsushima says, “What’s truly amazing about your gift is that every dollar goes right back out into the community. Whether you designate a gift to the Full Plate Project or give to the general campaign, one hundred percent is helping those in our community who need our support.”
Throughout the Month of May, 5% of all pizza sales from Nick’s Pizza and Restaurant in Endicott will go to support the Full Plate initiative.
