DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 5. President of
Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with UN Secretary-General Antonio
Guterres in Dushanbe to discuss various aspects of cooperation,
Trend reports.
According to the press service of the Tajik president, during
the meeting, Rahmon emphasized the UN’s significant role in
implementing Tajikistan’s priority programs.
In response, Guterres acknowledged Tajikistan’s substantial
influence despite its size, highlighting its prominent role within
the UN and the global community.
The discussion also focused on the need for international
financial system reforms to ensure sustainable and long-term
funding for achieving Sustainable Development Goals and addressing
climate change issues worldwide. The sides underscored Tajikistan’s
comprehensive support for global efforts to mitigate the adverse
effects of climate change.
Regarding security matters, they expressed mutual commitment to
addressing escalating threats such as terrorism, extremism,
transnational organized crime, including illicit drug trafficking,
and other global dangers.
It was noted that Tajikistan supports UN efforts in sustainable
development, peace and security strengthening, science and
technology advancement, innovation utilization, and digitalization
cooperation.
