SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A new bill has been introduced into United States Legislature that would grant rights to all humans born or not.
Missouri Representative Eric Burlison introduced House Resolution 722, which is titled as: To implement equal protection under the 14th article of amendment to the Constitution for the right to life of each born and preborn human person.
The resolution was introduced in the 119th Congress on January 24. HR 722, also known as Life at Conception Act, was previously introduced in the 118th Congress under the same name. The bill currently has 69 co-sponsors, including Texas District 4 Pat Fallon, Texas District 1 Nathaniel Moran, Oklahoma District 2 Josh Brecheen, and Louisiana District 3 Clay Higgins.
While the text of the bill is not available on Congress.gov, after much research and calls numerous co-sponsors of the bill, spokesperson for Missouri Rep. Burlison’s office, says HR 722 in the 119th Congress, is the same exact bill as the bill introduced in the 118th Congress, House Resolution 431.
Rep. Burlison also released a press release on the matter in late January.
The bill was originally introduced on January 20, 2023 by West Virginia Representative Alexander Mooney.
According to the previous bill, which is supposed to be the text for the newly introduced bill, the purposed of the bill is the include the words “human person” and “human being” to the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. The bill states that this would include all stages of life including “the moment of fertilization, cloning, or other moment at which an individual member of the human species comes into being.”
It is unclear if this bill looks to federally ban abortion.
The bill does state, that the bill does not authorize the prosecution of any woman for the death of her unborn child.
It is unclear at this time of when the new bill text will be uploaded onto the Congress.gov website. More information will be added as it becomes available.
