BENNINGTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Bennington Police Department reports that Nickolas Hollis, 34, was arrested in connection with the Bennington brush fire that occurred on February 27. He was charged with starting a fire, reckless endangerment, and reporting false information to a law enforcement officer.
Members of the Bennington Police Department and the Bennington Rural Fire Department responded to the brush fire on Route 9 West in the area of Vishay and a small solar farm. The fire consumed approximately two acres of brush before it was extinguished with the help of other fire departments.
Police report that the security cameras showed a male running away from the fire scene. Officers say they identified the male as Hollis who was then interviewed and determined to be the person who started the fire.
He was processed at the Bennington Police Department and issued a citation to appear in the Bennington Superior Court Criminal Division. Hollis’s arraignment is scheduled for May 13.
