JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Johnson City woman is objecting to the sentence and sex offender classification of the man who raped her daughter.
On May 23, D’Antoinne Bethea of Johnson City plead guilty to rape in exchange for 10 years of probation.
Bethea admitted to sexually assaulting a girl multiple times over nine years, from the time she was 7 years old to having sexual intercourse with her when she was 16.
Last month, a hearing was held in Broome County Court to determine Bethea’s sex offender registry classification.
The determination is based on a points system with Bethea receiving points for the nature of the sexual contact, intercourse and oral sex, the fact that there were multiple sex acts against the victim and his prior criminal history.
In 2004, he was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child for masturbating in front of neighborhood kids.
In the end, he was deemed to be a level 2 offender, one lower the most extreme level 3.
The mother of the victim objected to the lower classification, saying the court should have taken into account that he still lives next door and that there are children in the immediate neighborhood of his home on Harrison Street.
